Historical Ely-Criglar Mansion situated on 3 acres in downtown Marianna. Greek Revival architecture built pre-Civil War in 1840. The property was completely restored in 1996 and is currently used as the owner's primary residence. Could be used for commercial venture. Listed in the NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PLACES since 1971. Steeped in history, this 3500 square foot home is one of the oldest and largest brick structures of its type between Mobile, AL and St. Augustine, FL. The interior walls are made of handmade brick 12" thick. The front portico, which runs the width of the house, is dominated by four square columns. Rising above the second story is a full Doric entablature with an elaborate cornice. A second-floor balcony overhanging the portico is set off by a diamond-patterned wooden balustrade. Floors, doors, stairway, and woodwork are of yellow heart pine. The paneled doors in the brick part of the mansion are held together by pegs and contain their original brass fittings. Keys for these doors are over 5 inches long. Nails used in the construction of the house were square-headed and handmade. Most of the chandeliers presently in the house were originally gas fixtures, which were rewired for electricity in later years. Most of the door lights and window panes throughout the house are original. The antique furnishings, many original to the home, are available for purchase in a package deal outside of closing.
